The Bomford Collection In 1919, just after the end of World War I, the Earl of Sild employed the services of the famous explorer Barnie Bomford (pictured right) to organise a dig in the Valley of the Kings for tombs and artifacts which was a very fashionable pursuit at that time. He was spectacularly unsuccessful and Bomford achieved notoriety for stating on 29 October 1922, "This f*****g valley is completely exhausted. Everything worth finding has been dug up ages ago. Anybody who thinks differently is completely insane." The following month Howard Carter discovered the Tomb of Tutankhamun. However, within a few months Bomford returned to England with a number of 'items' which are housed in the Egyptian Folly along with the mummy of Senapod IV although how he acquired them has always remained a mystery.
